Leitle Carquest
Aurora, Missouri

"It was a good job. It has all worked out just fine for us".
- Bill Leitle, Owner

Bill Leitle is all about energy conservation. After having Ozark Energy Services install a tracking solar array at his home, he wanted to explore some options for his family owned business. Leitle Carquest has an expansive parts and tool selection and a knowledgeable staff, and the building also houses a repair garage.

The existing fixtures in the Carquest retail area were retrofitted to accept 4-foot T8 lamps and ballasts which use 45% less power than the T12 system it replaced. Everyone agreed that the repair garage and machine rooms needed more light, so a four-lamp system was installed which puts out roughly 30% more light with 20% less power consumption.

In total, this project took 6 kilowatts off the grid and reduced annual energy consumption by over 20,000 kilowatt-hours. Assuming coal fired power (which makes up 85% of Missouri’s energy production) this translates to over 30,000 lbs of abated CO2 emission reduction per year – the equivalent of planting 4 acres of trees or taking 3 cars off the road.

The Empire District Electric Company provided a rebate of over $5,930 for the project and the upgrade (with more light in the garage) will pay for itself in less than five years through $2,100 in annual energy savings. Further savings are found indirectly through reduced maintenance, since Ozark Energy Services installed ballasts with a five-year warranty, as well as is providing the first year of service at no cost, and supplied extra lamps for spot replacement after the maintenance period ends.
