K & S Wire Products
Neosho, Missouri

K&S Wire Products was founded in 1995 as a supplier of finished wire goods (racking, grates, cage doors and specialty items). Since 1995, they have gone through several expansions and are proud of their ability to compete head-on with foreign providers. K&S Wire Products has grown quickly, not only completing several expansion projects but also adding an automated power paint line. They employ many area residents and have received numerous awards for safety and manufacturing excellence.
When they first contacted Ozark Energy Services, it was strictly an energy conservation project. Ozark Energy Services replaced Metal Halide fixtures consuming 455 watts each with 225 watt T8 Fluorescents for the same perceived light levels and less than 1/2 the lighting energy use!

Shadows were nearly eliminated and lighting distribution improved dramatically by going to an eight-foot long fixture, a very important factor for production facilities. Office fixtures were retrofitted from 4-Lamp T12 to 2-Lamp T8 with a reflector, reducing power consumption by over 60%. Incandescent exit signs were replaced with LED signs, which use 90% less power and have bulb lives of over ten years.

In total, this lighting upgrade project took 26 kilowatts off the grid and reduced annual energy consumption by 150,000 kilowatt-hours. Assuming coal fired power (which makes up 85% of Missouri’s energy production) this translates to over 200,000 lbs of abated CO2 emission reduction per year – the equivalent of planting 29 acres of trees or taking 19 cars off the road.

The Empire District Electric Company provided a rebate of $20,000 for the project, bringing the net cost to under $25,000. With energy savings of nearly $9,000 per year, the upgrade pays for itself in less than just three years. Further savings are found indirectly through reduced maintenance. Ozark Energy Servces is providing the first year of lighting maintenance (another service we offer) with the project. The ballasts carry a five-year manufacturer's warranty, and extra lamps were provided ensuring no lighting supply costs for the first five years!
